Review of The McCoys Before The Feud
At the beginning of The McCoys Before The Feud the end of the civil war is nearing. The Mccoy family fought alongside the other southerners. Tommy Mccoy discovers, by a lead from his girlfriend Terry, that the North took numerous valuables. Together with his big family he sets out on a mission to return the stolen goods to their rightful owners and help those who lost everything during the war. But it is a tricky business. It takes cunning and planning ahead to succeed. By means of sending people to watch the sites they plan to raid, they get a good sense of who they're dealing with and how they can possibly steal back all that stuff without killing someone or being recognized. They not only plan to raid one site, but five! During the raids they face a lot of inconveniences and have to act accordingly. The McCoys risk losing sight of their purpose along the way as they get a taste at luxury. Tommy, his father and the rest of the family run the risk of being discovered and ruining their chance at raiding following sites successfully. Their biggest enemy is time.
I was very impressed with the plans author Thomas McCoy made up for the characters to invent. Everything was thought out, from good working teams to preventing Northern soldiers to send out warning messages. I was anxious the whole time reading that they were going to be discovered which made it excited to read this book all day long. Every raid was different which made it not boring and gave room to show the smart ideas the Mccoys came up with. Towards the end of the book I really started to feel attached to the characters and felt a part of their very large family.
Beginning with a story of the civil war, the book has a good introduction, but I didn't really know what was going to happen. Only when Tommy started to make plans did I get what was going on. This creates excitement but I struggled with losing interest at the beginning because it was very vague.
The McCoys Before The Feud receives a 3 out of 4 stars from me. As mentioned I thought the book was compelling and was overcome with the cleverness present. Its repetitive content keeps me from giving it a 4 out of 4.
This book is thrilling in its way and will leave you wanting more. I recommend this book to readers who seek excitement but do not drop it immediately when it seems to be getting a little tedious. Little love is shown in this book, although the family has a good relationship, so it is a no if you are a romance reader only.
