A Police Action by A. A. Freda is a book about two individuals from different parts of the United states, Samantha Powers from Lorenzo Texas and James Coppi from New York. Samantha wanted to be with James but for him, fear over washed him since he was a soldier. James could attend to his duty at any moment like the Vietnam war. After spending five months in Vietnam, James got discharge. And not to interfere with Samantha`s plans he flew from Vietnam to Manhattan without stopping in Colorado. Back in Colorado Samantha took a bus to Manhattan to meet with James. Though discharged, James hadn`t kept part of his promise. Samantha needed to know whether it was okay for them to be together. One Sunday morning while still in Manhattan, James proposed to Samantha. Later that day, they agreed to go back to their apartment in Colorado.

What I loved about this novel was the fact that Samantha never disappeared off the pages after James went to attend to his duties in Vietnam. In every chapter, I found Samantha and James. Though Vietnam war was there, Freda kept bringing them up. The funniest thing was back in the barracks when O’Farrell’s ran all over the room shouting and screaming for help with a dead snake on his neck.

I didn`t like how the story ended. When James was discharged having proposed to Samantha, there is no chapter and page that showed they did go back to Colorado and married. Only a word, “when we get to Colorado no more Texas barbecue crap anymore,” said James. I didn`t get a feel that indeed they did make it back to Colorado, they got married and she phoned James’s mum has promised afterwards.

This novel, A Police Action was well edited. I only found one minor error throughout the book. Freda used double connecting word on one of the sentences. "By now all of the other sergeants have gathered, as has the lieutenant." I think it could had been "By now all of the other sergeants have gathered, as well as the lieutenant." Instead of what Freda wrote. Regardless of the trivial issue I rate this novel 4 out of 4 stars. This book shows how self-reflection through creative expression can act as an effective coping mechanism.

I recommend A Police Action for a mature audience. Though the language is simple and appropriate, the author included scenes of abortion and sex better suited to a mature audience. Since some chapter describe the physical sex in details. I would caution sensitive readers about choosing this novel.
