Review of Randy the Irresistible
Randy the irresistible is a novel by S M Goodier about the life of Randy Love, who is a young, charming, and miserly guy who likes living his life in a carefree manner. The story starts with a narration of the life of Randy’sRandy’s parents through the birth of his siblings to his birth and the death of his mother hence being raised by his father only. The story follows us through his transition from a naïve boy to a mature adult. After dropping out of college and becoming a financial advisor of a low-end bank, RandyRandy moves to London searching for greener pastures, but life there proves to be more than he expected, and he faces challenging decisions. After several horrible situations and problems with accommodation, he begins to question whether he was the cause of his misfortunes.
The book is comedy fiction, and to be honest, I did not have many expectations from it when I started reading it. With time, however, I was able to get the story and found it quite enjoyable. The narration of the book is very descriptive and engaging. The author of the book makes it easy to follow through with Randy’s journey.
The book is filled with humour at the expense of our protagonist, which makes it all the more captivating. At first, the story is slow-paced, but with time, everything unfolds, and each character is fully developed. The writing is descriptive, and imaging is vivid; hence the book is easy to follow.
The ending was not satisfying, though. It felt like our protagonist did not fully evolve for a story so engaging and hence was not much of a climax. The book was filled with chauvinism too. Randy himself being a chauvinist hence an objectification of women, which may not sit well with some hence not a recommended read for those who may be easily offended.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. It’s a good read, and I did not find any grammatical errors; hence well edited. The book being slow-paced, may take time to get the whole story and its focus direction.
This book is not recommended for the younger audience as it contains swear words. It’s a book that rotates on adulthood and the challenges that come along with it. It’s also a good read for those who consider taking an easy way out through life. The book can also be a good read for those manoeuvring college or after college life.
