Fast-Starting a Career of Consequence by Fred Sievert’s tells us how we can be happy and optimistic in our professional life. This book talks about many things which are suitable for professionals at all stages. It also talks about the pandemic and its impact on the professional lives of millions of people. It also addresses the fear and anxiety of young adults and those who are re-entering the workforce. The style of the book is direct and is very easy to understand. In my understanding, the book is divided into 3 parts.

The first part of the book gives recommendations to people based on what he taught his own daughter. He writes about how not everyone gets their dream job. If a person gets a job they love, they should treasure it. Having a goal while working and doing work that matters is extremely important. This book has a lot of advice and life lessons for all the people out there working.

The COVID pandemic situation was something no one ever anticipated. Life of many people has gone haywire. Many people have lost their jobs. The sudden fluctuation in the market has also scared young adults who are about to enter the professional world. Many people do not love the work they do and in spite of the havoc this pandemic has caused, it has also given a lot of people the opportunity to reassess themselves and do the work they love.

The second part touches on suggestions and Christian beliefs which people in all stages of their career can apply. The author tells us how making Jesus our workplace partner can help us integrate spirituality and work life. It emphasizes the fact that work-life should not be viewed as something separate, because it will become a burden then. To be happy and efficient in our job we need to understand that spirituality and work can go hand in hand. The author also tells that one should always act in accordance with their values and beliefs.

The third part is more like a summarization of what we read till there and provides some amazing and practical tips in concise. These tips will be especially helpful for the young people entering the workforce.

The book is built around Christian, Bible-based principles. It will definitely appeal to the Christian population more. But the content of the book is such that it will definitely help professionals whether they are new or have worked for a decade or two. This book will definitely help a person reevaluate themselves and make them a better professional, friend, spouse, parent or children all at the same time. Although this book cites a religion-specific, people of other religions can also read it as such, and you are not going to get confused in any part. I think even as a non-Christian this book will appeal to the readers as they are more like lessons.

The work-related tips are very useful. They will definitely help a person with their time management and the quality of their work if used wisely. As a new professional myself, I will highly recommend this book to those who are starting or re-starting their careers. It is my pleasure to rate the book 4 out of 4 stars.
