Review of Sandra Eden's War
Many heroes fought against the fascist rule of the Nazis. The freedom enjoyed in the modern-day world is the fruit of the dedication and commitment of the soldiers who fought back in the Second World War. Brave soldiers put their lives in line to bring an end to the barbarous acts experienced under Nazi rule. Sandra Eden's War by Michael Low is a unique work of fiction that gives readers a fascinating account of the fight against the Nazis.
Sandra, a British Special Operation Agent, was deployed to assist the French Resistance in disrupting the Nazis' operations. Their mission was to destroy the supply lines, disrupt communication and hinder the movements of the Nazis. James Silverstone flew her to Normandy in France. On arrival, she dropped from the plane, but her parachute failed to open. Silverstone knew there was no way she could survive that fall; therefore, he flew back to their base in London and told his superiors that Sandra had died. The station commander of the London base had to find a suitable replacement for Sandra. They pick Nancy Lake to replace her. Meanwhile, they receive a message from Normandy informing them that Sandra is alive. They find it hard to believe. What happens when Nancy arrives in Normandy? Do they succeed in their resistance against the Nazis?
The most appealing thing about this book is the unique nature of the story. Women did not go to war during the Second World War. Men predominated the army; hence, we don't hear stories about brave women who put their lives on the line during that era. Although this is a fictional story, it shows that women have the same endurance as men. Sandra and Nancy had to prove their capabilities to the men who surrounded them to win them over. They were unbelievably good in combat. They did not expect men to carry their burdens; such gallantry is old-fashioned in this story.
As a reader, there have been times when I had to skim over pages of some books because the author gave unnecessary information. I did not experience that while reading this book. It delivered the excitement of the great war stories. The author wrote perfectly about the operations to sabotage the regime of the Nazis. The secret missions advanced the journeys of the characters. Michael Low did not try to whitewash the savagery of the Nazis. He gave a vivid description of the cruel acts they imposed on innocent people.
This book offered an exhilarating reading experience. There is nothing I disliked about it; it was fast-paced and easy to read. The editing was exceptional; I did not encounter any grammatical errors while reading it. With everything considered, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. Fans of books that talk about war will enjoy reading this story.
