Many of us find it hard to understand why or how or why people become drug addicts. Some of us think that they are people who have given up and that they got addicted due to their dissatisfaction with life or what they have experienced in the past. Chasing A Flawed Sun. tells a actual recount of a young man who had an understanding family and a great childhood, one which no one would be able to wrap their head around why a boy with such a bright future could have become an addict.

In this book, the author, Daniel McGhee, takes us, the readers, on a journey explaining the details of how and why he did the things he did. Each page and chapter of this book is embedded with genuine and raw feelings of the author and feels almost as if you were there with him at the scene when all of the events went down. The journey is fascinating and heartwarming.

Honestly speaking this book has given me a lot of knowledge about what goes on in a person’s mind during the addiction and what they were willing to do just to get more drugs. It made me understand how being able to stop using heroin is a great feat to overcome, as well as becoming sober from alcohol. Additionally, I have also come to realize that someone who is a drug addict does try their hardest to stop and that alone is very intriguing as they are self-aware and yet are not able to do much to stop themselves. It brings out more awareness for people in the drug community.

Although. Chasing A Flawed Sun. was written well, it was a bit hard to read through smoothly sometimes due to the fact that there were a lot of time jumps. I found it really hard to keep up due to the amount of leaving and revisiting the same time period in different chapters constantly. This alone made me read quite a number of the pages of this book multiple times and yet, I was still lost about what events happened first and what events occurred later.

As for the reason for my choice of rating the book. three out of four stars. , I would like to justify by saying that the story has a charm ,or a very interesting pull to it which made me finish the book in just about 4 days. As said before, it gives readers an insight of what is actually happening in the drug community or at least, part of it.

Due to the amount of swearing, racial and other slurs against people of different groups, this book is recommended for teenage or older readers or any one who is considering that they would like to try drugs just ‘to experiment’. Daniel notes his experience on what doing the drug feels like so that readers who are willing to experiment do not have to.
