The Attuned by Gary B. Haley is filled with adventure, crime, thrill, and so much more. It is the second book in a sequel containing three books, and hence, the story is a continuation of the first book, The Attunement. The Attuned describes the struggles faced by the protagonist while trying to get back home. The name of the protagonist is never revealed to the readers or the characters surrounding the protagonist. He travels under many false identities, one of which is Jim. As we read, we realize that Jim has certain supernatural powers. He uses these powers for the greater good. But later he comes across many dilemmas which drive him to use his powers for survival. To reach back home, Jim has to use various modes of travel like traveling by boat, airplanes, and even on foot. Through all these adventures, he uses his powers to eliminate bad people and to earn more money. He also helps those in need and is, all in all, a good human being.

In this book, there is another man with special powers too. His powers are different from that of Jim’s. He doesn’t use his powers for the greater good, but he doesn’t hurt others using his powers either. This is a recurring theme in this book. People with supernatural abilities, that can be used to bring destruction, use them for the greater good. Since Jim has supernatural powers, he is considered a threat by the FBI. His love interest, Carla, is also an FBI agent. She tries to help him with whatever resources she has while keeping true to her duty. There are several other mysteries in the book that is yet to be revealed.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Haley has a way of describing the adventures of the protagonist. He does it so vividly that the readers are transported to the location described. I also loved his idea of people with supernatural powers who use these powers for the greater good. Haley has maintained a perfect balance of adventure, thrill, and romance. The basic nature of the protagonist is described subtly. We learn about the intentions of the protagonist through his behavior and conversations.

There was nothing I didn’t like about this book. I can’t wait to read the next book in this sequel. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book was exceptionally well-edited and I found no grammatical errors while reading. In my opinion, anybody interested in adventurous stories should give this book a read.
