Review of Creating Literary Stories: A Fiction Writer's Guide
[Following is a volunteer review of "Creating Literary Stories: A Fiction Writer's Guide" by William H. Coles.]
Creating literary stories: A fiction writer's guide by William H. Cole's is a book that talks about the steps to writing a good, well structured, interesting, captivating and educative fictional story.
Expository in nature, the book reveals the different features of a fictional story and what makes it different from other forms of writing. With details to every idea, William H. Cole's hopes to help potential literary fiction writers and those who are already in the field to understand the different requirements to writing a good and enjoyable literary fiction.

This book is a real guide to fictional writing as the author paid exceptional detail to everything in the fiction writing process. As a foundation, he started by differentiating literary fiction from other types of writing and stated that the reason why so many literary fiction writers fail to produce a good work is because they confuse and interchange literary fiction with other forms of writing.
I particularly loved the way the writer arranged the book. From the definition of the concept of literary fiction writing to the features of literary fiction even down to the steps for creating a literary fiction masterpiece, I must really say that the author is indeed a good teacher.
As I read through the pages of the book, I felt as if I was in a literature class except that in this case it was a non-contact class. The book was not boring as the author added little stories to bring life to his book.
The part I love the most in this book was the part of the story of the "Little Red Riding Hood". This is located in page 8. I had heard the story before but what I did not know is that it could be retold in so many ways. The author retold the story as a thriller and an adventure all in an attempt to explain the concept of a character based story and I must confess that the author is an expert in this field.
There were so many lessons to derive from this short yet power-packed book. Such lessons include the mastery of plot development and the principles of characterization andhow to write captivating literary fiction and I enjoyed every part of it.
In general, the book was really great. It was short, straight to the point, captivating, knowledge loaded and above all, its plot was properly developed and it was professionally edited. For these reasons, I give it 4 stars out of 4 stars.
I recommend it firstly to potential literary fictional writers who want to learn about what it takes to write a successful literary fiction story and then to literature students. The reason for my recommendation is that it contains updated guidelines and lessons which literature students and literary writers will find very useful.
