Review of The Legacy of Job's Wife
When I decided to read this book, I honestly expected to read a familiar story. I mean Jobs' wife, the one condemned for profanity. I didn't expect much, but well, Cynthia J. Koelker has outdone herself. This book has brightened my knowledge, built my faith in God, and made me appreciate Ix'ises more in this incredible story of Grace and restoration. It is the story of Job and his wife, Ix'ises, from its genesis. A powerful love story to look out for. Koelker reveals the couple's love story from a very young age, their growth as a couple, to the demise and tragedy that landed on them. It's a journey of hope, love, grace, and forgiveness.
I like the fact that Koelker has used first-person narration to describe the story's events. It has made me understand Ix'ises better, getting in her shoes and experience her gains and losses. I am glad the author used this style because it helps build empathy, clearing the conscience of Ix'ises, who the society has condemned for asking his husband to insult God. Imagine losing everything in a snap—your kids, wealth, and having to nurse a sick husband all at the same time. Honestly, I would have profane my faith because there comes a time we are tested, and our faith is torn entirely, and there is no hope. I am glad I found this book at this time; I needed inspiration and encouragement. I, too, lost so many friends and close family members during the pandemic, I almost lost it, but here I am, blessing God for his grace. This story has helped me identify and understand the will of God and to trust in Him through everything, no matter what. Another thing I liked in this book is the poetry illustrations; very straightforward. The poems are easy to understand, and you won't need poetry skills to understand any of them. That's was very thoughtful of the author.
The Legacy of Job's Wife is one great love fictional story. However, I was not too fond of how Koelker ended the story. It got too predictable and unnecessarily stretched in the end. I expected an unpredictable ending or perhaps suspense to leave me guessing. Maybe it's a good ending for some readers, but I feel it could have been better. Another thing, it had poor editing and a few errors, here and there.
I will rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. It has authentic ideas and interesting narrations with well-organized ideas. The Grammar is simple and relatable to everyone, the statements, phrasing, and quotations are clear, and every character in the book is well represented and accounted for throughout the novel. It's intelligent work.
The story of Jobs' wife is for everyone interested in love and romance stories. I didn't know I was interested in this genre because I am always up for historical and biblical books. However, when I picked this, I loved the flow of events. I thought it would be a boring biblical narrative, but Alas! It's more than that. I loved it. I will recommend this to everyone really because it's a book like no other. Interesting to read and does captures its' reader's attention.
