Chasing The Red Queen by Karen Glista, is a supernatural thriller/romance novel. This outstanding book is about a young woman named Donja whose ideal life is thrown into chaos when her mother marries her stepfather and relocates them to the Canadian border in Michigan. Suddenly, she is thrust into an unfamiliar world with her glamorous stepsister Makayla by her side. Donja’s life irrevocably changes when she goes to an upscale nightclub teeming with Immortals. Amid the intoxicating lights, Donja captures the attention of a blood-thirsty Immortal intent on claiming her life. She finds safety in the presence of detective Torin Mancini when she finds herself hunted due to the nature of her blood. The duty to protect morphs into something more when the danger and adrenaline pull Donja and Torin together.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pacing of the story was an excellent balance of action and regrouping. I loved the family dynamic that Karen Glista developed with Donja and her new family in the beginning. I loved that Donja was able to realize that the toxic ex, from her high school, days should be left in the past and moved forward to her future. The writing was varied and kept me coming back for more. The ending was a spectacular cherry on top for me, and I live for endings like that. This was a thrilling romance, and I would read future books in this universe.

There weren’t many things that I didn’t enjoy about this book. The first thing that I didn’t enjoy was the book was very slow-paced in the beginning. The second thing was that the book started in a spot that didn’t necessarily relate to the rest of the novel because those characters didn’t appear again. The third thing is the relationships within the novel seemed to be rushed and magically fell into place. The fourth thing is how Donja started treating her mother for the sake of “protecting her family" from the Immortal's rules. Lastly, I wish there was a reason why behind the bloodline that made it so special.

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. This was a great read and the perfect amount of drama mixed with romance. The sole reason that I cannot give this book a perfect score is the number of grammar errors that I encountered.

This is a novel geared to new adults or adults. There weren’t explicit sex scenes in this novel. However, There were still suggestive scenes described. I would not recommend this for anyone under the age of eighteen.
