No one should take mental health for granted. It is a big part of how we approach life in general. Mental health disorder is a serious phenomenon and could often be lethal. That is basically what this book emphasizes on.

Unhinged by Steve Galley features what we call a perfect teenage life. It revolves around Eddie, a boy who seamlessly has it all: Sports, girls, parties, and great friends. But as the story goes on, we learn the fragile truth about him. The author uncovers the pain a person with mental illness suffers. Throughout the story, we are introduced to unique characters. But even given the number of these people in Eddie's life and not one of them ever knew about his condition proves how lonely the situation was for our protagonist. It shows the vastness of teenage personalities and how no one can ever really judge a book by its cover. This emphasizes how difficult mental issues are recognized in society.

There was a lot to love about in this book. What stands out the most is how relatable it is to anyone who's been through high school. All the descriptions of each character, all the thoughts Eddie had for himself, it felt so real and this goes to show how knowledgeable the author was on teenagers as if he was one.

There's nothing I hate about the book however if there's one thing I'd ask from the author, it's the story of Eddie and his girlfriend, Jillian. It felt like there was a huge leap from the first encounter to being super in love all of a sudden, especially in the case of Jillian. It is understandable though, the book wasn't meant for romance. Still, anyone that would read this would crave more from the couple. That would make this an excellent book for me.

Overall, I'd rate this book a 3 out of 4. It was a great book. It had ounces of action-packed scenes, a bit of romance here and there, and covers feelings ranging from excitement to sadness. There was nothing wrong however I wouldn't give it a perfect score. It felt like the author was an amateur in writing. Although this necessarily doesn't mean it's bad, the writings were simple. All of it was straightforward and it lacked creativity. But on a good note, the simplicity of it all makes it an easy read. Any audience of this book would truly grasp the full message of the author.

I'd recommend this to teenagers going through a hard time in life (mentally). And to anyone who is in close connection with these people. It is important to know and understand how they see the world. And it is important to recognize mental health issues as early as possible and get help as soon as possible.
