Toxic Side Effect by Sandy Magner is a work of fiction revolving around the death of the protagonist’s father. Filled with suspense, this book will surely give you goose bumps until the end.

Richard J. Burns, a 71-year-old man, was rushed to the hospital on the afternoon of May 28, 2013, after he showed signs of discomfort. It is concluded that he ingested poison, which became the cause of his death. The police begin an investigation to find out the killer. Audrey Burns, Richard’s wife, is considered a suspect. The investigation leads to uncovering Richard’s dual love life. His girlfriend for over two decades, Maureen, also becomes a suspect. The story takes interesting turns and the unexpected unfolds. This book shows how Richard was emotionally torn between the two love interests, and how that ended in his death.

How did Richard die? Who was accused of his murder? How was the investigation carried out? Who was finally declared guilty? Read the book to find out the answers to all these questions.

The author has done an amazing job describing the different characters. Though the book is a work of fiction, I could visualize the various emotions of the characters. The love, suspense, agony – everything felt surreal. The story had a lot of twists and turns which increased my interest in the book. Each chapter created more interest in the story, and I was hooked to the story until the very last.

The book had a few extra indents, but that didn’t affect my reading that much because they were not frequent. Other than that, I could not find any noticeable flaws in the book.

The character of Jennifer Burns was what I liked the most in the book. She helped a lot in the investigation after her father’s death and played a major part in catching the culprits. She is empathetic, even to people who are not nice to her. Her love and compassion for her half-brother Andy brings out her affectionate side, making me like her even more.

I would conclude that this book was well-edited as I did not find a lot of errors in the book. So, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this book to people who are fans of fiction and is a must-read for those who like suspense and thriller stories. But, this book has instances of deaths, sexual abuse , and profanity, so I would not recommend this book to people sensitive to it.
