Review of My Living Will
''(i)My Living Will.(/i)'' is a self-help book by John Trautwein. The book was written with the intention of helping and giving hope to those who lost their loved ones due to suicide. The writer takes us through the techniques he used while passing painful moments after the death of his son who committed suicide.
Being a caring parent, the writer explains to us what he learned and practiced to his remaining children after that disastrous event, that he had to be more keen, more close and good listener to his children, making follow up closely to all their behaviors including their excitements and happinesses. He pictures all special moments he had with his deceased son trying the best to be the best father but sadly failed to discover the unusual thing of his lost son until death found him. He gave some tips to parents and adults which may assist in noticing the suicide action which is about to happen or planned to happen. Also reminded them to talk to their children and their children’s friends.
During finding peace in himself as a father, he changed his pains into an inspirational change agent to all communities in his country into taking actions in preventing suicide especially to teenagers. That was when he became a founder of Will To Live Foundation in memory of his deceased son, which supports all activities purported to convey messages concerning having a will to live so as to avoid and decrease incidences of suicide to teenagers. It included sports, consultations and even scholarships.
The book encourages a lot and acts as a reminder to all people who are grieving that, there are good in everything that happens to everyone out there. Moreover the writer tells us that love between ourselves, from friends, relativesand community in general heals the sad heart. An addition to that he mentioned prayers being another source of hope, in the sense that as per his Christian bealive,he believes that our dear ones who have already gone, are in God’s hands being happy and peaceful. His main point in that is that the grieving people should not lose hope but believe in God, that he is with them, carrying them through those tough times. The best part that touched me the most is about the positive attitude of the writer, where he quote the saying, ‘all we have is today, yesterday is gone, tomorrow has not yet come and each day begin again.’
I rate this book ''(b)4 out of 4 stars(/b).'' It was well edited. I have no dislikes about the book, since it focuses on very relevant theme. I recommend this book to all people searching for hope due to grieving of their dear ones. But also the book gives chances to all to team up and fight suicide.
