The fourth Kinetic: Clairvoyants by Brady Moore focuses on the main character Rion, who has telekinetic superpowers. Rion lives a relatively quiet life moving from town to town; with his loving mother. One day almost overnight everything he thinks he knows about his mother changes; as he discovers that dangerous people are after them. Rion meets strangers like him but becomes separated from his mom; on the quest to find his mom again. Rion will grow to have a new family, and learn about his abilities. However, every accomplishment will come at a cost.

I absolutely adore the diverse cast; that is one of the first things that stood out to me. The cast is diverse and that is something that is amazing to see in fiction. Rion is definitely a likable main character; he has very defined traits that make him feel almost like a real person. Aries is another character that in my opinion is also very well written; we can see his character development come about in subtle ways. We see how he goes from being a predator and unable to speak up when his friends take things too far; to outright standing up for Rion. I love the character development he goes through. Rion and Aries are absolutely amazing in the book and even Perseus and Aquila go through a fairly decent character arc.

One thing that I absolutely did not enjoy from the book was how many times the words “gnarl”, “snarl”, “gawk”, and “grimace” were used in the book. I completely understand that given the length of the book words are bound to be repeated. However there were points where I couldn't help but roll my eyes. In chapter 14: Bank Robbery; the word snarl is used twice in page 141 and then again in page 143. I believe the book would have benefited with a bit of show and less tell when it came to these specific words. The rest of the book has very colorful and eloquent language; it made the overuse of the words listed above all the more jarring. My only other critique would be that I wished the book had been a bit longer; either that or that the character arcs went by slower. At some points it felt like the story zoomed by. I would not have minded if we got more of Rion interacting with the predators or Phantoms to make us care more about the fight scenes. At some points the story went by so fast that when bad things would happen there would be no emotional attachment; or even a reason to be upset. I believe if the pacing had been slower and characters like Leo and Ara fleshed out a bit more this book would have become one of my favorite books.I would not even have minded if the book had ended with Rions capture it would have still made for an amazing cliffhanger while leaving room to deepen the relationships between all the characters.

I rate it 3 out of 4 stars.

I can recommend this book; it is a fairly decent book. It is a solid read, if you enjoy young adult fantasy. I recommend this more for teens between 13-17, this is because the fast pacing might be more engaging for young adults in the younger spectrum. Overall a solid story; but if you are an avid reader or prefer longer slow-burn books, still check it out just understand this story is more fast paced.
