Review of Pastoring is Not What You Think
A lot of people peddle a lot of misconceptions about religious leaders and the roles they play in the lives of their members. We tend to always believe that religious leaders have the easiest job in the world. A lot of people also believe that they exploit their members to enrich themselves. We generally undervalue and misconceive their role in our lives.
In the book Pastoring Is Not What You Think, Elijah Oladimeji goes into detail to explain to the reader that the job of a pastor is way beyond the misconceptions peddled by society. He explains the many sacrifices men of God make that society never sheds light on. In the book, he used the life of pastor Job to bring these sacrifices to the reader's knowledge. What are these sacrifices? Find out by reading this interesting book.
The book has a lot of positive aspects. I love the author's writing style. I love that he exposed the reader to the life of a pastor through the interesting and hilarious story of pastor Job. I also love how detailed the book is. The author touched on almost every part of the life of a pastor. He also touched on the many pressures they face. They face pressures from family and members of their church. He wrote about how they help others through their struggles but deal with their issues in silence. The importance of faith in the life of a Christian was also emphasised in the book.
However, I didn't quite appreciate how basic the storyline was. I felt the author could have introduced a little complexity to the plot. The plot was too simple. However, other readers may find that interesting about the book. Aside from the aforementioned, I didn't find any other thing to dislike about the story.
The book was professionally edited. I found a few errors in it, but they were not enough to take anything away from my enjoyment of the book. Consequently, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. I did not give the book a lower rating because I thoroughly enjoyed every part of it.
I recommend Pastoring Is Not What You Think to readers who seek to understand more about the job of a pastor. I also recommend the book to Christians who are looking for reasons to appreciate their spiritual leaders more.
The book contains a lot of religious words. The author made a lot of references to the Bible. While Christians will have a good time reading the book, readers who are not Christians may not enjoy the book as much.
