Double Redemption by Francis Gene Collins is a story focused on two different POV’s, Mike and Emma. Each character focuses on their traumatic upbringing that is filled with horrified moments, but also moments of good and change. Mike’s story starts with his early years, no parents around, being unwanted by all his family members, sleeping outside when he was only seven years old, and much more. Throughout his early years he had many struggles, but we see him fight to be better very early on. We continue to see his life through a positive change once he is under the care of his Aunt.

Emma story starts off quite similar. She lost most of her family young and was past along to her grandparents. She was a quite, obedient girl with few friends throughout her school life. Emma goes through struggles of her own, weather it be school, boys, or her grandparents.

Currently, both Mike and Emma have had difficulties in the romance department, but once they meet during a chance encounter they both felt the spark. They both begin to connect through coffee meet-ups that continues to grow into more. Through the story we learn of the many struggles they individually face that causes this connection to have some struggles.

The author did a great job on diving into Mike’s character and his life struggles. The timeline the author choose was very interesting and kept me engaged. Constantly flipping back and forth from present to past and Mike’s POV to Emma’s worked in favor. The twists at the end really caught me off guard and was a positive surprise!

For audiences that are looking at a romance novel that focuses on how two adults overcome life struggles to form an unbreakable bond…this was not it. Unfortunately, the romance was not there with no passion, lust, and overall love. I believe one of the reasons this was not felt was with the style of writing. There was so much dialogue with this characters and not enough narrative, emotion, and inside thoughts. Some moments I caught myself thinking “how does she/he feel during this moment?”.

I also think there was a lack of a high climax that most readers expect. This was more of a small hill towards the very end of the book. Which brings me to my next negative, the ending was very quick to cut off. I think the story needed to end on a more final note, especially with all that the characters went through.

On a extra note, the title Double Redemption is understandable, but only once the audience has read the book. I think if someone were to see this title in the romance section, they would think that this had to do with a multi-character romance setting.

Overall, this book receive a 2 out of 4 star ratings. The book has positives and negatives, but I would not recommend to read.

I recommend this book for Young Adults and Fiction lovers. This can be included in Romance, however, I do believe this is where the story is lacking based on what I have written above. I also think this book can be read by any gender.
