Review of Apotheosis Now
Apotheosis Now by Yanhao Huang Is a book about the mind, thoughts, and reaching true enlightenment. The author writes about the ego, explaining what it is, and how it can take control of your thoughts, and how you act or react in certain situations can all come back to the ego. The author quotes many other famous people, such as Albert Einstein, and uses these quotes beautifully to explain his perspective. He also talks about other authors who have written about the mind and how your thoughts can create positive or negative reactions in your life. He gives his honest opinion about there being some truth to what they say, but he also points out all the contradictions of their teachings. He touches on the many ways we have learned to think, and how we will always think and act a certain way because of our past and what we have been taught. He also uses religion and God as an example in his writing. Many people might find what he wrote in this book about religion, and God offensive, but I found it quite insightful and could see things from his perspective.
The author did an excellent job writing this book because he did it in a simple, easy-to-understand way that I did not feel confused by anything he said. At the begging of the book, the author states that this book is not intended to teach you anything new. Still, I did learn a few new things from him that I did not know before, so even though it is not his intent to teach anything new, I believe many people could learn from his book as I did. For example, he explains things about the mind and how we go from experiencing moments from birth to labeling stuff as we get older. The mind becomes conditioned by what we see, hear, and learn from our parents, friends, and society in general. As I read the book, I realized that many things he explains about children, and how a child's mind is conditioned are some things that I am guilty of as a mother.
The author explains selflessness and selfishness, and how many people will try to become selfless, but fail because of how they try to become selfless. He also explains the correct way of trying to be more selfless in a logical way that I was laughing at myself, realizing that once again I am guilty of what he says and felt silly for not knowing it on my own. However, I learned a lot about myself, and my mind while reading the book that I felt a little more self-aware. I read this book in one day because it is a quick read. Still, after I had finished reading the book, I decided to go back, and read it a second time a day later, and found that on the second read, I was reading the book with a different perspective, and with a more open mind than the first time around.
I am giving this book a 3 out of 4 stars rating because I do not have anything negative to say about this book. It is beautifully written, it was easy to understand, taught me a lot about myself, and was very insightful in general. However, I am deducting the one star because there were a few grammar errors in the writing.
I would recommend that anyone who wishes to learn more about themselves, what true enlightenment is, or who is open-minded should read this book. However, please be warned that he does talk about religion, and it could be offensive to some readers.
