Love, Grandma by Ann Morris is a children’s story where the author honors her granddaughters, Payton and Haley. She does this by retelling some of her fondest memories with them while they’re growing up. As she spends time with her granddaughters, her love continues to grow, and her heart couldn’t be happier with the two girls in her life. Some of the fun they share unintentionally gets out of hand in at least one instance, such as when the grandmother tries to show the girls that she can also do a backbend. Instead, she lands on her head and decides it best to let her granddaughters do gymnastics instead.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It is full of brightly colored illustrations that highlight and pair well with what is being showcased in the story. It covered a variety of memories but remained fairly short. With the illustrations, the PDF version was only twenty pages long. It was more than long enough to be a good story but short enough that a young child shouldn’t get bored reading through it. Young readers might be eager to try out some of the activities mentioned in this book as well, which will help them create their memories with their grandparents.

However, I did have a couple of issues with this story. I believe that is too narrowly focused overall, and that some readers might have trouble relating to it. My other issue is with the rhyming used throughout. It all felt just a little too forced for my liking. I feel this story would have been better off not being written in verse. This made the story drag a little while I was reading it.

Though this book is impeccably edited and without any noticeable error, I am rating it 3 out of 4 stars. The rhyming and narrow focus of this book just didn’t work out for me, and it seriously detracted from the story overall. The illustrations, while stunning, were not quite enough to bump the story up that last star for me.

As for the audience, I think this book is best suited to grandparents and their grandchildren. It is a cute, fun story without any profanity or sexual content for readers to find offensive. Young readers might even enjoy the fact that this story is written in verse, even if it didn’t work for me. I’m fairly certain that readers will enjoy the illustrations that go along with this book.
