Review of Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat
Serendipity Mystery by R.F. Kristi is the seventh book in the Diary of a Snoopy Cat series. In this installment, we continue to follow the world-famous Inca & Company detective agency, led by Inca, a Siberian detective cat. This time around, we join them on vacation on the small island of Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, it wouldn't be complete without a mystery to solve, as an antique sword was stolen from one of the museums. While Solo, a humanoid detective, was invited to the crime scene to investigate the stolen sword, Inca and her friends would be called into action. What can Inca do to solve this mystery?
Following a similar format as the previous books, the author does a brilliant job of educating while infusing fun and suspense. In addition to our favorite cat, Inca, and Terrance, the dog, we also meet the inquisitive and huge Meena, the elephant, and Rani, the delightful turtle. Children will definitely love these new additions to the crew in this story in the same way I did.
The story also emphasizes the importance of teamwork and promotes the development of an inquisitive nature, as we see the characters complement each other in the investigation and put their noses into every clue they come across. I also learned about kindness when Inca encountered a dangerous situation in the jungle in search of some of her relatives. This was one of the most engaging and suspenseful scenes I enjoyed in the story.
In addition, the colorful illustrations by Jorge Valle, which are present in other books in the series, are also included here. The book cover with Inca and the magnifying glass, which informs readers of her inquisitive nature, is a perfect example of what to expect of the illustrations in this book. Children will thoroughly enjoy viewing them. However, I would have appreciated more of those illustrations, as the book was too wordy. This was the only thing I did not like about the book.
Serendipity Mystery is a professionally edited book, as I found just one punctuation error while reading. The issue I discussed influenced me to settle for rating this book three out of four stars. Children between the ages of four and nine will enjoy this book, especially if they love animals and enjoy solving mysteries.
