Sonar The Surge is B. Truly's third and final novel in the Sonar trilogy. In this installment the audience is submerged in the lives of those involved in the galactic war between two planets; Polaris and Kadan. At the most critical point in the war the Polars take the Kadanans hostage.

The Kadanans are an advanced race of humans who possess superhuman abilities and the issue of saving their people falls on their royal family and the members of their council. With a budding relationship at risk and a not so comforting prophecy looming, this book will keep you intrigued.

If there is one thing B. Truly's audience appreciates about her books it is the romance. She really knows how to keep her readers entertained and invested in her characters' relationships. With a number of steamy scenes we see the main heroines of the story having to navigate not only regular relationships, but having to do that while fighting a war. In all honesty I found that the romance and the heroines were by far the most interesting parts of this story.

While I wouldn't say I did not enjoy the book I would say that, apart from the romance, I found it to be fairly average. There weren't many descriptions of any characters' physical traits and they did not feel like fully rounded characters. The sentences were mostly very short which made the book feel rushed and unplanned and the writing did not flow very smoothly. I did however enjoy the fact that the chapters were short as it made the book feel like it was moving at a good pace and kept me entertained. The writing, however, left something to be desired. I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars.

Being a reader who enjoys more detailed plotlines in books I feel as though this one could be a hit or miss for other readers. I definitely believe it would be more enjoyable for readers who are not looking for a very rich plot and mostly enjoy character driven stories. I would recommend this book to adult audiences who are partial to fantasy and romance, as well as readers who enjoy futuristic sci-fi novels set in space. I wouldn't recommend it to readers who are looking for a story with a lot of substance as I found it was slightly lacking. I strongly believe this book would not be well suited to younger readers as a result of the strong language and some quite explicit romance scenes.
