Ironing, by Navajo, is an experimental frictional novel that tells the story of three teenaged girls, namely Ginie, Royanda, and Emma, who went on an adventure on a London bus to watch a dog race. They were so excited as they met different people on the bus. The girls achieved their aims, got to the venue, and enjoyed themselves. However, one of them encountered an ugly incident that got her life threatened by a brute. Was She able to survive the ugly incident? Were the girls able to get home safely that day? Check out the 87pages of this book to find out what actually happened.

The Author, Navajo, introduced several short stories about the bus passengers who were relatives, friends, and neighbors of the three girls. For instance, Amira, the female bus driver who drove the girls to the dog race center, was Royanda’s aunty.

The story of these three friends portrays the saying ‘’ friends stick to each other every time’’. Among the three girls, my favorite characters are Emma and Ginie. Emma is hilarious, curious, and naughty. I laughed countless times after reading her expressions. She believes whatever her mum tells her, regardless of how meaningless it can be. For instance, when the girls were having a discussion about foods, on pages six and seven, Emma insisted on raw food, as told by her mum that they could only eat raw food, as processed food made people mad. I admire Ginie’s personality because her behavior makes her completely different from the other two girls. She is calm, cute, and a brave teenager.

The aspect I disliked most about this book was the introduction of many characters that disrupted my concentration from the main characters. Initially, I would have my mind focused on the three characters, then suddenly, another strange character would divert my attention.

I would rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. I deducted two out of four stars because the book is not edited properly; it has few punctuation mistakes. The story was diverted occasionally, confused me, and made the play insipid. The story didn’t catch my attention, especially when I got to the end and found out that the storyline didn’t correlate with the title of the story. This book may not be appropriate for children, or better still, parental guidance is highly advisable. Ironing talks more about adventure, so if you love adventure stories, I implore you to read the story.
