Ironing by Navajo is a fictional novel that was made to be experimental. Indeed, I felt some new experiments while reading this novel. The way the writer described and depicted every single things was intense that I could feel what the characters feel. The main characters, Emma, Ginie, and Royanda, the college girls who were in the bus for their journey to the dog race event at London. Not only focused on them, the story is also about life of other passengers in the bus. You will notice that the characters were related to each other, depicted that we live in a small world which contains different and unique stories.

I like this book because some of the stories are relatable to real life. For example, what boys think of girls and vice versa, how racial and religion issues affect marriage, etc. I really appreciate the smooth transitions from one story to another, imagine that this book is adapted to movie, the transitions from scenes to scenes would be amazing.

I also like the unique traits of main character, Emma, who really concerns and curious about enviromental issues that I find her relatable to myself who also just wonder about anything. Emma's mother is described as "the craziest" character. Even though she is just to be described by other characters, she gets love from me because she has unique thoughts, which affect Emma and actually is quite funny.

However, maybe because this book is meant to be experimental, I was quite disturbed by some stories in this book. For example, the child abuse and sexual issues. I can sense the feel of how the child character be abused by his "loving" mother, how cringy the sexual verbal abuse that Caitlin got from George, and so on.

I warn the readers who do not like profanity, sexual, religions, and racial issues to be mentioned in a fictional book, to just skip this novel because i am quite sure some people would find these issues offensive. And, I recommend this book to youngsters above 18 years old and open-minded people, because of this book was made to be experimental, especially for the issues I have mentioned above. Not to say that all older people dislike those issues and are not open-minded.

I rate Ironing by Navajo a 3 out of 4 stars because of things I have mentioned above. Even I actually do not fully hate the disturbing experience I got while I read this book. Also, as an Indonesian, I am not really good at English, so I was excited to find some new words and idioms here. I should drop a star because there is a typo, which is quite confusing for me because this good novel should be professionally edited. And, there are many cursing and vulgar slang words in this novel that makes me a bit uncomfortable when reading it.
