Review of The MECE Muse
Christine Lindor's The MECE Muse is a guide for consultants. The book offers a great deal of insight into the profession. There are three major sections in the book. In the first section, we examine the mindset of great consultants. The second section discusses the performance and conditioning of great consultants. In the final section, there is a reflection on one's career as a consultant.
It is inspiring to learn the reason for the book. Having needed such a book at the beginning of her career, the author wrote the book to use her experience and expertise to help people better understand the profession of consulting.
The structure of the book was excellent. The font size of the book was suitable for people who have difficulty reading small font sized books. Furthermore, the book included diagrams and tables that effectively presented the information in a captivating manner. As befitting a book of such informative content, the language used in the book is simple and easy to understand.
The book exhibited the author's knowledge especially well. The author's knowledge didn't just shine in business but also in psychology, sociology, etc. Throughout the book, I appreciated the use of quotations, advice, and proverbs. As well, I liked how the author presented interviews with multiple consultants in different parts of the book. The presentation of the interviews was extremely clever because otherwise it would be tedious and repetitive.
This book gets a 4 out of 4 rating from me. It was exceptionally well edited. In my opinion, it was error-free. Additionally, the book does not contain profanity or religious references. Therefore, I recommend it to everyone in general, and especially to people who are interested in consulting.
I personally found the book to be inspirational. As the book is filled with valuable pieces of advice, even the majority of the pieces of advice related to the profession of consultants, but, we can apply the pieces of advice to other professions. Furthermore, I was impressed with the author's passion towards her profession. She did an incredible job at evoking this passion throughout the book. As a result, I would like to lead a similar life as hers. Moreover, I particularly appreciated the way the book promotes morality as the key to success because in business people seem more concerned about profits than leading a moral life.
Despite knowing little about consulting, reading this book helped me discover a lot about it. I hope that there will be more books which describe professions in details, like this one.
