Review of Demon Freaks
Bing and Ron Slaughter are twins, sometimes referred to as the Slaughter brothers. You might not guess it at first glance as the twins wear different styles of clothing and have different colored hair. The SAT exams are coming up. The twins decide they need to study, or they'll end up working in the Mcdonald's their parents own. The twins are in a band called Ephits. They play with their two friends Kaitlyn Krimpsen and Prathamesh Kimitri (also known as Meat). The group decides to meet up at Meat’s cabin and study together.
After a sudden shock of lighting, the lights go out. Almost immediately their teacher shows up in the backyard and tries to kill them with a dagger. Meat takes away the dagger and upon touching it, the dagger starts talking to him and forcing him to do things. The dagger makes Meat drive away. The rest of the group begins going after him, meeting lots of conflicts throughout their journey.
Demon Freaks by J.R.R.R (Jim) Hardison is classified as horror and comedy; the comedy in this book outweighs the horror. The humor in this book never felt forced and almost always made me chuckle. The writing style in this book is pleasent. The author uses prose and does not divert your attention from the story. I also loved the character designs and how he described their looks. One of my favorite things was the descriptions of the twins.
The story is fast-paced but not so fast that it's hard to keep up with, the pace is just perfect for a reader to understand the story and want to keep on reading.
The high action scenes in the story felt a little hard to keep up with, but thankfully there aren't many of them for it to be a big problem.
I did not enjoy that one of the main characters did not feel fleshed out when you compare her to the other main characters; Kaitlyn’s character sticks out because the other characters are three-dimensional and her character is not.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed the story and most of the characters were nice. I did not find any mistakes in the text; this book was edited very well.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read something short and have a good laugh. Warning: there is non-borderline profanity and very mild sexual themes, nothing explicit but anyone underage should probably avoid reading this.
