Review of Manifesto for a Cancer Patient
Manifesto for a cancer patient by Colleen Huber, NMD is a book manifesto for cancer patients' rights and a walk through a Naturopathic Medical Doctor's experience in administering cancer treatments.
According to the author's professional experience, it is the right and the responsibility of all physicians to discuss various alternatives for appropriate treatments with their patients, from both conventional and natural medicine as applicable, and to honor patient choices in their health care. As far as all of those treatment choices are concerned, it is incumbent upon others, family, and loved ones, to honor patient choices in treatment and in treating physicians. The author's ideal environment for a patient is one where they could have a doctor who would meet their health needs without trying to bully them into unwanted shots and drugs. The author became a Naturopathic Medical Doctor to be the kind of doctor that his family and she needed for the rest of their lives.
The author explains how cancer is such a massive business, shouldering the work of keeping hospitals in the black. According to her, it would be naïve to assume that all decisions made with regard to cancer were simply independent of the money, and only related to the best interests of the patient. She advises everyone to take the responsibility for keeping a vigilant eye on such a financially robust industry in order to make sure that our acquaintances, our loved ones, our patients, who are suffering a cancer diagnosis, from possibly real cancer or perhaps alleged cancer, are not deceived or otherwise victimized by those with pecuniary priorities.
The author shares that cancer patients who choose naturopathic treatments over chemotherapy are berated by those who had already decided on a treatment plan. One challenge the author has experienced in her profession is that Naturopathic physicians treat cancer patients and are criticized for doing so by oncologists. This leaves the question as to whether the war against cancer or against any alternatives to the status quo.
I think the author has shared enough statistics to confirm her views regarding cancer treatments and the status quo. I also think she has provided a number of options that patients can look into when deciding their treatment. She has also provided clear examples of when her patients did not respond to the treatments and the likely causes. Therefore, I rate this edition a full 4 out of 4.
