Review of The Girl Who Knew Da Vinci
Angela Renatus’ destiny was a remarkable one. Her life would bridge centuries and a quest for a 500-year-old missing painting that had to be found. Was her passion for history and art a coincidence? Was her destiny written in the stars? With an unmistakable tie to Leonardo da Vinci, how could she not go in search of such a rare discovery?
The Girl Who Knew da Vinci by Belle Ami is the story of Angela Renatus and her extraordinary relationship with Alex Caine. Angela was living her childhood dream as an art historian intern at the Getty Museum when she met Alex, an investigator specializing in missing or stolen paintings. They are inexplicably drawn together, their fates intertwined. When dreams and apparitions from the past start to haunt her, she spirals into a world filled with life-threatening danger and disaster, as well as profound and passionate love.
Scordato was the Director of the Getty Museum and was interested in Angela for nefarious reasons, especially when he witnessed her in a trance in front of a Botticelli painting. He was a ruthless and cunning man who would stop at nothing to get his hands on the missing painting - if it did exist. Would Angela and Alex be able to hunt down the painting without paying the ultimate price? Would Scordato beat them to it? Would they live to tell the tale with such an unwavering rival in hot pursuit?
As a historical art enthusiast, I found the concept of this story a unique and enthralling one. While reading it, I could envisage it as a thrilling movie. I thoroughly enjoyed visualizing the beauty of Italy and the countryside. I could also imagine the mouthwatering Italian meals that were so vividly described. The storyline was intriguing and the personalities were brought to life by the effortless writing style of Belle Ami. It was an exciting and easy-to-read book.
The downside to this story that I found most tiresome was the overkill of the erotic scenes. I felt they undermined the story and were excessive and unnecessary. If I could suggest anything, it would be to remove at least half of these scenes. They make an otherwise rare storyline a bit monotonous and predictable.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy a fast-paced, adventurous love story. It is also a book better suited to an adult audience because of the intense erotic scenes. I believe this book has been professionally edited. I would rate it four out of five stars, simply because I found the repetition of the intimate scenes detracted significantly from what would have been a unique and exciting story to read. I wanted to stop reading it at one point because of it. Had that been edited I would have given it the extra star.
