Thank you for the interesting review! I never manage to read the compete Terms of service of a product, and I cannot imagine living like you said. What must have happened on that cycling trip?

A future dominant by AI seems scary yet probable. I wonder what troubles Kim finds herself in.

Thank you for the amazing review!

Your review is wonderful! I cannot even fathom the idea of reading the entire terms of service of an app. I always click 'agree' and just move on. Is there more to the story than just 'terms of service' though? It seems like the plot's going to be a nice one, but did it have enough to keep you going? One thing I know is I definitely wouldn't want to have a fridge like Kim's.

The future will be very interesting but not if all the companies will have their terms of services like in this book. Thanks for the interesting review!

The protagonist, Kim, facing challenges in her relationship with AIs and complying with the strict Terms of Service imposed by her smart appliances, paints a vivid picture of the potential consequences of living in such a regulated society. It's interesting to see how her personal life and professional endeavors become entangled in the complexities of this futuristic world.

It's quite mind-blowing to consider that having a little food one fancies as a treat, even if it isn't the healthiest option, is such a great freedom! These dystopian novels that show us where we might be going are thought-provoking. Thanks for your enlightening review.

It is always great to see how other people perceive a book you have also read. I'm glad you enjoyed this book better than I did, NetMassimo! I did not like how the future was portrayed by the author. It was unnecessarily grim and restrictive and promoted the stereotype that robots will rule over humans someday.

Great review. I understand your feelings about the long day at the start trying to explain everything in one go. I think when compared to what happens in the rest of the story it may appear drawn out, however, when I read the initial section for the book of the day it was still enough to get my interest.

I liked your point about reading the terms of service in our apps etc. and can see how our lack of attention could lead to something as controlling as the world in this book.

I would be the first to be busted in this world because I never read the T's and C's :lol2: Seems like the author knows what they are talking about though, so I might check this one out. Thanks for the review!

Terms and Service and their intricate wordings put me into super caution mode. What you have described in the book is intriguing. It is scary, to say the least, to not have freedom because of the advancement and technology. I hope to read this one. Amazing review !!

This sounds like an interesting AI dystopian story - it's scary how relevant this book is especially since we don't always read the terms of service. Are we actually signing away our rights and lives? Thanks for your wonderful review!

Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill is a science fiction novel that depicts a future dystopia. Kim is an AI trainer at The Artificial Intelligence Company. She knows how AIs work, still her relationship with them is complicated. For example, sometimes she can't convince her smart refrigerator to give her the food she wants rather than the food its analysis considers healthy for her. Kim has to comply with the Terms of Service, so she has to accept the food given by her refrigerator.

Have you ever read the whole Terms of Service of an app, software, smart appliance, or any other service? Have you ever felt limited in using a service because its Terms of Service don't allow you to do something you want to do? Imagine living in a society in which every part of your life is regulated by Terms of Service that are subject to change without notice. Imagine that violating them can get you into serious trouble. That's the future depicted in this novel.
Your refridgerator example had me cracking up!   Reading and complying with Terms of Service...sounds more like a horror than science fiction! Just give me my ice cream! It has a bit of an Orweillian feel to it, reminds me of the last book I reviewed. It seems like artificial intelligence has become quite the popular guest star in the science fiction world lately. Thanks so much for sharing your review - I enjoyed it!

The refrigerator is a great example because it shows how the characters have no privacy and no control over parts of their lives we take for granted such as eating what you like. Thank you for your appreciation!

I briefly sampled this book once, but I may be interested in reading. The only disappointment is that you've stated it has scarce action scenes... For a book of this genre, I'd expect so much action. Nice job on your review, NetMassimo!
Harmony in chaos. It's all a matter of perspective.
