"Devil Among Us" by Jack Winnick is a gripping novel that kicks off with a devastating explosion in a Brooklyn Orthodox synagogue, leaving over 150 people dead. Lara Edmonds, a member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force, is tasked with unraveling the mystery behind the attack. Despite various Palestinian terrorist groups claiming responsibility, Lara and her team struggle to pinpoint the true culprit due to inconsistencies in the claims. With the help of Mossad agent Uri Levin, Lara digs deeper into the investigation, uncovering a larger conspiracy at play. As tensions rise and danger looms, Lara and Uri must navigate their complex relationship while racing against time to thwart the looming threat.

Lara and Uri join forces to combat a complex conspiracy intertwined with political strife and religious tensions. Their unique blend of skills and determination equips them to navigate the layers of deceit and manipulation at play. As they delve deeper into the case, they uncover unsettling truths and realize that the true perpetrators remain elusive.

I was intrigued as I followed the story narrated with engaging writing, drawing me into the intricate web of espionage and political intrigue from the outset. Lara's resourcefulness makes her a compelling protagonist, while her chemistry with Uri adds depth to the narrative. Set against the backdrop of real historical events in the Middle East, the author seamlessly weaves fiction with reality, providing readers with a gripping insight into the complex relationships between the United States, Israel, and the region's political landscape.

The book features numerous well-developed characters, though their abundance occasionally leads to confusion and difficulty in tracking them throughout the story. However, this minor flaw does not overshadow the overall enjoyment derived from the exceptional creativity and writing prowess of the author. Despite some challenges in following the multitude of characters, the narrative captivates readers and leaves a lasting impression, making it a thoroughly enjoyable read. I must commend the author and editor for a job well done; I could not find any errors. The book was exceptionally well edited. I would rate this book five out of five stars because of the writing style.

The book is a riveting blend of international crime and historical fiction, offering an immersive narrative that stands out as a standalone read while also being part of a series. The author's meticulous research and attention to detail bring authenticity to the story, captivating readers with its action-packed plot and engaging writing style. I recommend it to enthusiasts of the genre.

I've read some of Jack Winnick's Lara and Uri series, and they are all interesting and share the same theme of terrorist attacks. How did Lara and Uri catch the perpetrators of the Brooklyn Orthodox Synagogue explosion?

With the kind of jobs that the two agents do, it must be hard to cultivate or even maintain a romantic relationship. Terrorism is one thing that I don't think can be eradicated from the world, we can only manage to reduce the level to which it occurs and I admire those authorities who dedicate their lives to do such jobs.
