"A Dream For Peace," penned by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, is a compelling memoir that delves into the life of an exceptional individual and embodies extraordinary qualities and life principles. The narrative serves as a conduit for essential moral values often neglected in the contemporary era, offering a poignant reminder of their significance for humanity.

Hailing from Aïn Beïda, a small Algerian town during the French annexation, the author's frustration with the neglect of Algerian heritage in education prompted action. As a medical student in France during the 1950s, he co-founded the Association of North African Muslim Students to combat discrimination. His journey took him to a Ministry of Health assignment in the war-torn country of Morocco, earning him acclaim. A significant scientific breakthrough at the University of Indiana marked a pivotal point in his career, followed by a prestigious professorship at Yale in 1963. Motivated by a desire to contribute to a better world, he advised the Foreign Ministry of Côte d'Ivoire in 1965 and became a trusted counselor to President Félix Houphouët-Boigny. The memoir emphasizes his diplomatic commitment, highlighting a 1973 summit where his creative approach defused a provocative speech by Fidel Castro.

In his personal life, which initially appears challenging, Dr. Berrah finds happiness when he marries his love, Titi. His commitment to peace extends to his personal relationships, mirroring the same principles he advocates for universal peace. The book encourages readers to contemplate the significance of the freedom we currently experience, emphasizing the obstacles encountered in achieving such freedom. The inherent values within the book offer substantial benefits to those who explore its contents.

The meticulous descriptions of visited places were a delightful aspect for me, creating a vivid sense of presence at those locations. Despite spanning 644 pages, Dr. Berrah's life story surpasses the book's length in terms of a compelling narrative. I appreciate the way Dr. Berrah cultivated healthy relationships with a diverse array of individuals, including notable personalities. Notably, his bonds with 'papa' President Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Titi stand out as particularly admirable. The poignant account of Dr. Berrah's unwavering backing of the president in his final days is deeply touching. Amidst his hectic schedule, Dr. Berrah admirably maintained his responsibilities as a spouse to Titi and a committed son to the president. Dr. Berrah's interfaith marriage life with Titi, a Christian, exemplifies a compelling illustration of the potential for harmonious coexistence in society, surpassing distinctions of religion, race, caste, or creed.

In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, finding nothing to dislike. Hence, I enthusiastically rate "A Dream For Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah with a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.
