Review of What Do You Think, Mr. Collins?
What Do You Think, Mr. Collins? by Neal Bialostosky delves into a world where artificial intelligence and humanity collide, set against the backdrop of Paradise City. With a satirical twist reminiscent of the Trump/Clinton campaign, Bialostosky offers a fresh take on the sci-fi thriller genre, blending elements of fantasy and social commentary seamlessly.
The diverse cast populates Paradise City's landscape, from protagonist Ben Collins to AI architect Sydney Maddow. As mayoral candidates Teresa Vasquez and Gregory Lind vie for power, characters like Evelyn Broadwell and Dr. Norman Hippleton add depth. Amidst societal upheaval, their interactions illuminate the ethical dilemmas posed by advancing technology. The narrative unfolds in a dystopian landscape where AI threatens human employment, mirroring contemporary concerns. As the mayoral race heats up between incumbent Teresa Vasquez and the enigmatic Gregory Lind, readers are drawn into a web of conspiracy and intrigue. Amidst themes of free will and technological dominance, characters like Ben Collins and the sentient AI butler, Alfred, navigate a city teetering on the brink of chaos.
Bialostosky's vivid descriptions and sharp dialogue breathe life into a cast of diverse characters, from the ambitious Evelyn Broadwell to the cunning Sydney Maddow. While the story's pacing keeps readers on the edge of their seats, occasional flashbacks provide depth but could have been clearer in execution.
The book What Do You Think, Mr. Collins? captivates with its imaginative world-building and thought-provoking exploration of humanity's future. Fans of science fiction and dystopian fiction alike will find themselves engrossed in this thrilling tale of politics, technology, and the blurred lines between man and machine.
I had a little dislike for the book because of its high profanity rate. But that wasn't enough reason to deduct a star. The book was well edited with no grammatical errors. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend this book to readers seeking a riveting blend of science fiction, political intrigue, and social commentary. With its diverse cast of characters, thought-provoking themes, and gripping narrative, this book offers a compelling exploration of the intersection between humanity and technology in a dystopian future.
