I also don't like the books which try and gain sympathy towards the protagonist by using drugs and other substances as a base. But this one seems interesting because it adds intrigue to the story so I might give this one a try.

So far, this is my favorite book among all the ones I've read on this site. I empathized a lot with the protagonist, and I find the story truly beautiful.

It must have been scary for her to go through such an ordeal. Foster homes ain't perfect but I would rather stay there than live on the streets. But she seems strong as she is willing to endure such burdens and even leave on the streets. I loved your review.

The review praises "Hunger of the Pine" for its emotionally gripping narrative, well-developed characters, and realistic portrayal of homelessness. It appreciates the book's cover, character depth, and cultural representation, despite mature themes. The story's message of resilience and gratitude resonates strongly, making it a compelling read for mature audiences. Overall, the reviewer gives it a perfect 5-star rating, impressed by its profound impact and elegant writing style.
