Summer Fated To Be Mine by B. Truly is the first novel I read by the author, and it draws readers into the thrilling love triangle of Zakiah Morelli. This book focuses on Zariah’s love with two women, Iliana Kaplan and Glory Glover. Zakiah is devastated to find out on his wedding day, right before the vows, that his first love is still in love with his brother. The narrative is centered around the idea that a second love can eclipse the memory of one’s first. Truly’s lively storytelling shifts between these romantic entanglements, adding heft and depth to the narrative.

What particularly drew me to this book is the way the author was able to breathe life into her characters through rich and detailed descriptions. The combination of the author’s detailed description and one’s sense of imagery made this book feel like a movie. I loved the choice of African American characters. It made me relate to and connect with the novel more. This book is a wild ride of emotions, taking you on a heart-wrenching journey through self-discovery, heartbreak, and the pursuit of love. I loved how realistic the author kept the plot. It showed how relationships can be complex and how we have to be resilient to get through this journey we call life. My favorite character is Zakiah. His journey to clean his soul and navigate a path of his own made me admire his character so much.

I rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I loved the narrative and its exceptional editing, as I found no grammar errors. I had to deduct one star because of its constant use of profanity and also the description of sex scenes. I found it uncomfortable to read, but I’m sure this might not be a problem for most readers. This is just a personal preference.
I recommend this book to those interested in young adult fiction with a blend of romance.
