The Life and Adventures of Pineapple Sam by Pineapple Sam follows the titular character through a series of hilarious and dramatic tales in the real world.

The first section of the book introduces the reader to Pineapple Sam as a kid. Despite the economic status of his family, he bears witness to the delights and wonders of the real world just by gardening. The real world is no paradise, but it is brimming with colour and life. The next couple of sections are about Pineapple Sam as a teenager. The reader sees how he matures as he picks pineapples for a living, interacts with the opposite sex, learns about the world outside Hawaii, develops close friendships, jokes around, and experiences new things. The later sections take a serious turn as Pineapple Sam goes through hardship. Being a hitchhiker is not all sunshine and rainbows, and being a marine in South Vietnam is even worse. The last two sections of the book depict Pineapple Sam’s two unforgettable moments as an adult. After reluctantly attending his daughter’s wedding and being threatened by a group of goons, what will his ultimate outlook be?

Pineapple Sam picking pineapples for a living is my favourite part of the story. I can feel the excitement and passion he has for his summer job. They are infectious. In the modern world, most people hate their jobs. Sam is different, and this makes me smile. I also like how the author emphasises that the job, while simple at first glance, requires the right equipment and tons of energy. It shows that Sam takes the job seriously. Lastly, I seldom read stories that depict life in the mid-1960s, a period when prices were low and technology was limited. As such, Pineapple Sam picking pineapples for a living is a unique reading experience for me.

To sum up, The Life and Adventures of Pineapple Sam appeals to readers who are interested in exploration, coming-of-age stories, and life experiences of real people. However, I found many typos and grammatical mistakes while reading, so the editing needs improvement. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful review. I don't think I will be able to read it because it does not seem to be my type of tea.

This sounds like a very interesting story! I would be interested in reading it if it goes through another round of editing as I find that typos and grammar issues are quite distracting while I read.

This Pineapple Sam character sounds intriguing. I, too, love reading stories in the time period when technology was limited. Thanks for your review!

The story seems to be a complete depiction of a life in all its details, especially since the events take place in an earlier time, which gives it a different impact. Thank you.

From the title I thought this might be a children's book, but I'm happy to hear that it's not. Is it a memoir or is it a fictional story? Either way I'm adding it to my list.

It's a memoir. The name Pineapple Sam certainly make it seem like a fictional children's book, but no, it's not.

The Life and Adventures of Pineapple Sam takes us through the stages of Sam's life, a young man, as a teenager, and finally as an adult: the fun, the learning, and the tough phases. I am interested in knowing how he navigated the incident at his daughter's wedding as much as I would love to read about all the phases of his life.
Another detailed and informative review. Thanks.

Pineapple Sam sounds like such a fun and lively character. I love stories that show real life with a mix of humour and emotion. His love for his summer job is refreshing. Too bad about the grammar errors, but still sounds like a good read!
