This book was fantastic! I was hooked from the first
paragraph.

Anyone with the most basic knowledge of the Old Testament of the Bible has heard of Job and that his name is synonymous with misfortune and bad luck. But I had never heard much about his wife. What a woman! Her name is Ix'ises and she is a dedicated wife and mother, a talented musician, and a soulful poet.

The author provides readers with realistic and engaging dialogue and portrays Ix'ises as a good woman with human flaws that lead to despair and doubt. I loved the way the author foreshadowed the couple's bleak future on the first page of some of the chapters. I enjoyed following the characters in their happy and fulfilling lives but knew, of course, that things were about to change drastically.

The characters were well-developed and fascinating, and there were many of them. The descriptions of Job's decline and Ix'ises' heartbreak were breathtakingly real and moved me emotionally.

When the characters were playing music, I could almost hear it in my head. I thought the love-making scenes were quite tender and well-written, as well as non-offensive. Job truly was a loving husband and someone who always cared about the plight of his fellow men and women.

Ix'ises was written as a complex character who was quite compelling. I enjoyed being part of her inner life and her interactions with her husband, children, and various others. Ix'ises doubts Job again and again, but he always comes through for her and is eternally patient.

The author's descriptions of life in biblical times were quite interesting. It was a nice change to vicariously experience a slower-paced life with simple pleasures like eating and walking together. Ix'ises' and Job's conversations about animal sacrifice were especially interesting to me. The depth of their feelings about the subject rang true. I was also impressed to find only one typo in the book.

This book is a story of Job and his many travails and about how he and his family overcame them. Job's belief and trust in God are truly inspirational. Despite not understanding why so many tragedies were inflicted upon him, Job never doubted that God would bring him and his family through to happier times again. I know I certainly envied his rock-solid faith.

I rated this book a 4 out of 4 and a 5 out of 5 because it was so well-written and engaging. I will definitely read more from this author.
