“Wild World” by Peter S. Rush is a historical fiction that follows the life of a young man named Steve Logan who wanted to make a change.

At Kent State University, four students were killed and nine injured by the National Guard troops during a protest. This caused a lot of turmoil. After hearing a speech from Sergeant Durk, Steve Logan decided to join the police force after graduation. This way, he could make a change from the inside. This decision came with a lot of obstacles, but he still persevered.

From the beginning sentence, I knew that I was in for a treat. The book drew me in and held my interest till the end. The writing is intense; the book riles your emotions at the injustice in our society. Rush’s writing style is very vivid, and it captures the emotions felt in the situation. I love that the book also includes an interesting love story. Roxy and Steve’s relationship adds spice to the book, but like all relationships, it had its own ups and downs.

The book exposes the dirty side of the police, especially police brutality. This has been going on for years, and I hope we can get to a time when it is non-existent. This book also exposes the corruption that goes on in the police force. Steve saw it firsthand, and he was not thrilled by it. The corruption ranged from minor things to serious problems. Things should be put in place to end it. This book felt real; we see the issue it discusses every day in our society. Steve is my favorite character. He is very courageous. Although there were hurdles on the way, he still wanted to make a change.

This is an interesting book; I read it in one sitting. It is also exceptionally edited, as I did not come across any errors while reading. I had nothing to dislike. For these reasons, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy historical fiction.
