Beyond the Bowling Ball Bombing is a young adult science fiction novel authored by Kordel Lentine. It is the first in the trilogy named From Under the Sun.

Terrance Brown is that awkward, geeky student in school. Unfortunately, he was frequently targeted by bullies, causing him to take long routes home to avoid them. One day, while on his way home, he found himself caught in an explosion, later known as the bowling ball bombing. Miraculously, Terrance survived after the bowling ball landed mere feet away from him and a nearby car. As he regained consciousness, a strange neighbor accused him of being the culprit and reported him to the police. The police apprehended Terrance. The lengthy investigation ensued in vain, as they were unable to prove anything against Terrance. His photos were plastered on the news, shedding light on the previously quiet town. Surprisingly, Terrance, who once shied away from the spotlight, found himself rising to fame and gaining national attention.

There were songs made about his incredible survival, and posters were put up all around the school. The bullies calmed down and even respected him for what he had accomplished. Despite numerous investigations and conspiracy theories, the case went unsolved and eventually faded away. This is when Terrance stumbles upon a mysterious puzzle box that claims to hold the secrets to the bombing and even predicts the precise date and time Terrance will solve it. Initially skeptical, Terrence can't help but be intrigued by the box's intricate design and sets out to solve it with the help of his friends. As they decipher the box's clues, they are led on a journey through time and space that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Will Terrance finally uncover the truth about the bombing, or is he being led astray? The answers lie within the pages of the book.

I found the descriptive writing in this book particularly appealing. The time travel and futuristic township parts were intriguing, and it was heartening to know that the future depicted in the book was elegant and clean. The author's use of elaborate yet simple language made it easy for me to visualize the complex procedures and environments. They would be suitable for a motion picture. This book is an enjoyable read that expertly details the technical advancements of a new world at a steady pace.

I appreciated how the author made the high school moments relatable and straightforward. This book is perfect for young readers as it has well-defined characters with great character development. The gray tones presented in some of the characters highlight the protagonist's qualities. I found myself wondering if Terrence would be able to escape from Stanley's hold or if he would give in to the pressure and prioritize his own life. Throughout the book, the author successfully keeps the reader interested in the subtleties of good triumphing over evil. Finally, there were some interesting facts in the hat tips and Easter eggs at the conclusion.

The clear and thorough explanations make it an excellent choice for fans of sci-fi thrillers. The level of excitement in the book is just right and is maintained until the very end. Even though it is marketed towards young adults, older readers will also appreciate it. I'm looking forward to reading the subsequent two volumes in the series, which I'm sure will be just as enjoyable.

I have nothing negative to say about this book. The book has been exceptionally well edited, with no typos or errors. Overall, this is a fantastic book that is definitely worth reading. I gave this book five out of five stars because it was excellently written and had a descriptive style that made it easy for readers to picture this imaginary universe.
