In Cyrus A. Ansary’s book, Odyssey of High Hopes: A Memoir of Adversity and Triumph , we take a journey that is memorable not only to the author but now to us. His challenges and accomplishments are a testament to resilience and resonate within all of us.

I had a long train ride and read half this book to my destination and finished it on the way home. I could not have asked for a better travelling companion. The book demonstrates a coherent structure and presents its content with exceptional clarity. The author dreams of a better life and by fits and starts overcomes the difficulties in the path towards his goals.

Along the way, we meet his family and friends. Classmates and teachers also play significant roles throughout his life. Some folks are helpful in moving him forward while others do all they can to thwart his dreams.

Not everything goes as planned and sometimes as he goes one step forward there are more steps backward. But he goes on repeatedly to overcome each hurdle that is set in his way to reach his goals.

I cheered him on! I felt like this was my friend and we were in this together. I wanted him to succeed. During the journey, since long train rides give ample time for contemplation, I took the opportunity to reflect on previous challenges I overcame and recognized that these experiences equipped me with the resilience necessary to manage future difficulties. If he did, so could I.

I give this book four out of four stars and five out of five stars and an extra star because of the excellent editing and effort put into publishing an enjoyable book that was delightful to read.

After you finish reading this book, think about his story in relation to your own life’s story. Take courage in your accomplishments just as the author has done.
