This book was intriguing and thought-provoking regarding the question of why does God allow evil and suffering in the world when he is all-powerful, all-loving, all-just, and all-wise and his ultimate goal is for mankind to experience love. The author goes on to explain that God prioritizes love over justice and suffering and how that logic leads to the existence of pain in humans as a natural consequence. His arguments also focus on faith. Faith in the ones you love, faith in yourself and faith in God. And true love requires faith. Furthermore, there is significant discussion about time. According to the author, before Adam and Eve committed original sin they were living in a timeless existence filled with love for each other and God, but once sin occurred the consequences included suffering and death and the world began to experience time.

For as stimulating as the book is, it is straightforward and logical. A few times I had to reread passages to discern and fully understand the point, but overall it was a pleasure to read and think about. The author quoted several passages from the Bible to strengthen the book's assertions, and often referenced the book The Catechism of the Catholic Church to further prove those points and to show you that the logic never conflicts with the tenets of Catholicism while still explaining the resultant conclusion of why there is suffering and death in our world.

This book is written for every person who has wondered on their own why there is so much pain in the world and whether God has purposefully allowed the pain and why. The book focuses on the beliefs of Catholicism versus other world religions yet is not just meant for Catholics but for people who are trying to make sense of our world today. I would rate the book a 5 out of 5 for the ease of reading and the thought provocation it created. I would not change anything in the book. I think it was well written and enjoyable. I didn’t find even one typographical error.
