Review of Crimeline Hollywood
Hollywood: where celebrities and stars thrive, and desire and grit allow one to turn stardom dreams into success. It is home to stars with lights brighter than the sun. Yet, like any other place immersed in fame, tragedy and drama exist.
In "Crimeline Hollywood", readers first meet Hardwood, an astrologer extraordinaire for the rich and famous, who is hunted as prey by a business mogul who claims that he was ill-advised by the astrologer, as it seems his stars did not align with the purchase of a new establishment. Hardwood Dash is on the run as circumstances force him to change his identity and leave The City of Angels. But after lying low for some time, he gets disturbing news concerning his dearest client and friend, Sparklynn. The actor/musician is missing. Led by emotion and friendship, he immediately jumps into the case to get Sparklynn back. An unlikely task force of five forms. Will a celebrity detective, astrologer, pastor, industry agent, and husband locate the beloved Sparklynn James? How will her career progress if she is missing? How will Hardwood ensure his security? Will he blow up his new identity?
Thomas Collins writes a thrilling fictional book. It has an intriguing plot that keeps the readers' eyes tethered to its pages. The plot weaves around mythical astrological concepts with a backdrop of crime. It reveals human nature by exploring themes of greed, betrayal and manipulation. Though fictional, it shows how celebrities get exploited by the industry they trust to aid their careers.
I enjoyed the progression and growth of each character. My favourite character was the main protagonist, Dash Hardwood. The writer gave him a witty, humorous, and daring personality that did not overshadow other personalities in the book. Instead, his personality brought humour to every page. Also, I enjoyed the writer's use of catchy metaphors and phrases that permeated through the layers of dialogue and suspense.
I loved the sections the author put in place to illustrate a change in setting. It slowed the story's momentum and gave room for more depth in character development, allowing me to follow the story thoroughly.
However, the book had plenty of grammatical errors but did not detract from the storyline since they were minor. In addition, it had strong language and some use of profane language. Any reader who is sensitive to these kinds of content should be careful. So, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars since I enjoyed the plot. It was a rollercoaster of events with an exciting climax.
I recommend this book to those who love reading thriller and crime-themed genres. Also, if you do not mind the use of strong language, then this book is for you.
