Audible.com is both a seller and producer of audiobooks and other audio entertainment. They sell radio, TV programs, audio versions of magazines and newspapers, and of course, audiobooks. There are a few different memberships with various perks, such as the regular Gold Monthly membership, the Platinum Monthly Membership, Gold Annual Membership, or Platinum Annual Membership. One of their best perks is their “Great Listen Guarantee” return policy, which allows a member to return any audiobook purchased within the past 12 months if they’re not satisfied with the purchase.

For a monthly fee of $14.95 a month, customers can get 30% off any audible.com purchase. Once a month, members are given one credit that is good towards an audiobook. However, some audiobooks are more than one credit. More credits can be purchased for a discounted rate, but there are certain criteria that much be met. For example, the customer must be enrolled in their current membership for at least 3 months and can only have one or no credits in their account. Credits don’t expire, however you can only have so many at a time, depending on your membership level. If you cancel your membership while you still have credits, those credits are lost, which seems pretty unfair. You still keep your previous purchases after your membership is canceled at least. Instead of canceling, your membership can be placed on hold for up to three months. During that time, you still have access to any unused credits and have the 30% off discount previously mentioned.

Audible.com is available through Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS devices. I tried out the free month trial using both my computer and Galaxy Note 3. Using my computer I had no problems picking out a book and listening along. Downloading it onto my phone was a bit of a hassle, and it kept restarting my book until it was completely downloaded. I had no problems using Audiobook.com’s app, so I’m not quite sure why it gave me such a hard time. The audiobook automatically syncs when switching between apps and desktop. Both the app and the computer have a 30 second fast forward and rewind button, which is nice for when you get interrupted or lose your place.

The selection at Audible.com is gigantic, and I had no problem finding quite a few books that I wanted to check out. In the end I went with the first 2 books from the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer, which I highly recommend. The quality of the audiobooks I tried out were fantastic. The voice actor had multiple accents for the various characters and I never got lost in the different points of view.

Overall, I would rate Audible.com 3 out of 4 stars. The giant selection, reasonable price, and ease of setting up an account were the selling points for me. On the downside, the frustration I had while trying to download my book onto the app left a bad taste. I don’t think I will be keeping my account, but it’s definitely worth trying out the free monthly trial.
