What do you think should happen to someone who breaks the law? Most of us would say that this unlawful person be put in jail and suffer for what he/she had done, which is a reasonable statement. Now let me ask you. Do you think emotions should play a role when deciding the outcome of a court case? Emotions are a strong tool that humans have and we like to think that we are above them but sometimes that’s not always the case. In The Banned Book of Love (originally called I love Brock Turner), Scott Hughes writes about the reason he loves Brock Turner, a rapist, through valid points and shows how emotions can impact our why of thinking.

This non-fiction booklet shares Hughes’ opinion about what he means when he says “I love Brock Turner” and at the same time, reminds us what it means to be human beings. This short reading has a strong voice and has good intentions for those who decide to read it. The starting statements may, at first, confuse those reading but as you read deeper into the book, you begin to understand what Hughes is saying.

The title of the book and it's concept about loving a rape criminal may make you unwilling to read this booklet but reading this allows one to reflect on the world around them. What's inside will no doubt at least open you eyes, even if it's just a little. It reminds us that we're all entitled to our own opinions and not to question things based on appearance alone.

Hughes uses Brock to get a point across and once you finish reading this, you will begin to pick out the deeper meaning behind the words and start breaking away from depending on others opinions. This book is much more than someone else opinion and it is worth the read.

When reading this book, one should read with a open mind and not expect what the title leads you to think. Reading this should be beneficial to seeing how the world works and how our emotions can greatly impact its outcomes. I really enjoyed reading this booklet and on a scale of 1 to 4 would rate it 3 out of 4 stars, since it was thought provoking and had a deep meaning inside the words but at I read, I found that there a word that made no sense because it wasn’t a complete word but other than that I would highly recommend this book to people who wish to know other people’s opinion or who want to understand how other people feel.
