Review For The Love Of Suzanne by Kristi Hudecek-Ashwill

I'm not sure I really understood the premise of the book before I started reading it, but I'm personally not a big fan of historical or sci-fi romance. This book has both of these qualities.

Premise with no spoilers ** The h in this book is in an abusive relationship and winds up pregnant. Then after a freak accident, she also finds herself as a widow. Confused with her situation because she's both happy that her abuser is no longer living and sad with the news because he was her first love, she takes a drive to clear her mind. She's driving along in her car, but somehow she ends up time traveling back to the mid 1800's. She notices a guy in the middle of the road on the horse which causes her to crash. She winds up face to face with an Indian agent.

He takes her onto his horse and away from the fiery machine. Their adventures are tough and there is quite a bit of brutality during their travels. The brutality was a bit rough for me and I had to skim through that some. As you can imagine, it's quite the adjustment for someone from 2015 to fit into that time period. Although, during this rough time, Cody does everything he can to ensure her safety. The love that develops between the two of them is inspiring and believable. They have to fight so hard to get their HEA, but they do indeed achieve that. The settings, details, and character development are realistic for that time period.

The positives about the book: it is well written, good editing, and the story flowed nicely. It just really wasn't my cup of tea, but if you don't mind a little sci-fi and history with your romance than this would be a good read for you.

The negatives for me and my basis for a 2 rating are based on the time travel aspect (didn't seem realistic even for a sci-fi), and the brutality (I could've done without the graphic details of the killings, especially the little girl). There were parts that were very hard to read and it felt more non-fiction than fiction. Maybe that's a good thing for some. Honestly, I don't mind a little dark with my romances, but this was too much for me.

I think the author is very talented, it just wasnt one of my favorite reads. Interesting concept for a story though!
