Audiobooks.com is an audio book subscription service. You pay a monthly fee of $14.95 and get one book credit a month. From what I can tell, this book credit is completely up to your discretion. There are no “premium” books, allowing you to use your credit on whatever you like. You can start for free with a 30 day trial period that includes one free credit.

Signing up was a very simple and quick process. I used my laptop to sign up and then downloaded the companion app to my iPad and my phone. I suggest downloading the app before making your book selection. I did have a little difficulty getting my chosen book to show up on the app at first. I believe this was because I chose on my laptop before downloading and logging into the app on another device. After I got it to show up, the service synced with each device seamlessly. You can browse, choose, and listen to books within the app.

I must admit, in the past I have not been a huge fan of audiobooks. I find it difficult to pay attention when a book is being read to me, especially when I cannot read along with it. My mind starts wandering too much and I end up not knowing what happened. I immediately found this the case again. However, I did find that listening in the car worked out extremely well. I had nothing else to focus on other than driving and listening to the book. It also made my drives much more enjoyable. That being said, the book I chose was called Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen. I found the voice of the reader very interesting. She had some sort of British or European accent. I enjoyed the break from the “normal” sounding voices I hear on a regular basis where I live.

There are a few different features available while listening. Four speed settings give you the option of how quickly your reader speaks. The book is divided up by “tracks” if you want to skip ahead or forward. I believe the tracks are spaced out at every 10 minutes. There are 30 second buttons that allow you to jump forward or backward, that are useful if you didn’t quite catch something and need a repeat. Another feature that is neat, is the sleep button that permits you to have it automatically turn off after a certain time. Lastly, you are able to listen to your book offline.

Audiobooks offers more than just your one credit a month. It gives you the option to purchase an extra credit anytime you’d like. I love the various categories they have when browsing and searching for books. On top of those categories, they include a “featured books” section that also contains categories such as, “Buzzfeed’s Best Fiction of 2016”, “New York Times Best Sellers”, and a few others. One of the categories is a free book section. In here you can select as many book as you want without a credit. This selection includes mostly classics, but the variety is still very good. The variety of books overall is fairly large. I noticed many new releases, and popular series' such as, the Game of Thrones, the Divergent series, and the Hunger Games series. However, other popular series like Harry Potter were no where to be found. Lastly, I received an email a few days after signing up giving me the opportunity to get another free credit by reviewing there app.

I would give the Audiobook service 3 out of 4 stars. I really like the available selections and the various features that make your listening experience better. However, I feel as though I cannot give it 4 stars when I do not plan on continuing the subscription. Although I think the price is fair, I do not feel that it is worth the extra money out of my budget when I would only be listening in my car. If I had a longer commute to work every day, I would not hesitate to continue with Audiobooks. This service is ideal for people who already love or want to try audio books. It is an excellent service with great options and extras when it comes to listening to a book.
