It's a story about three different groups of people and their journeys to finding their place in life written by a brother and sister who happen to be Adele fans. The story takes place in three different locations: Marrakesh, Morocco; Las Vegas, Nevada and Amman, Jordan. Marrakesh, a city Elias had visited and met Malika, a girl he fell love with who was being sold by her mother by the night to help make ends meet for her family. Years later he returns searching for her and thus his journey begins. The authors give a lot of information regarding the city, El-Fnaa Square and the customs including men having to dance in veils as belly dancers known as shattah who perform to be able to support their families. The struggle to take care of the family and what each member of that family must do to accomplish this is tastefully told.
Las Vegas is where Yaser and Mariam are trying to resuscitate a stalled marriage, with a marriage counselor, and hold their family, including two children, together while pursuing demanding careers. Their marriage counselor challenges them to look for one happy moment they shared in their past and to build on that. They spend their time looking for that moment and coming to terms with what they each really want the outcome to be.
Amman, we find Nadia, a divorced single mother navigating the problems of just being a woman, where men hold the reins and make the decisions just because of their gender. She is trying to raise her son giving him the love and happiness she grew up with and planning to take him to see Adele's concert in Verona, Italy for his birthday. The story documents the journey she goes through trying to make it happen.
As you can tell from the title it revolves around Adele's tour and her songs. Each chapter has words from one of her songs that fits in with the thread of the story. The authors tell the reader some of the everyday problems we most likely have never faced and yet we can also relate to the struggles of the characters just trying their best to make life work for themselves. We can definitely empathize with the characters and cheer for them to find love and happiness. The book is well written and well edited.
I really enjoyed the glimpse into the everyday life that takes place in other countries, however I wasn't happy with the ending as it felt rushed compared to the rest of the book. I would have liked the ending written with more depth and information as to the outcome of the characters. One of the journeys didn't feel like it had an ending. I felt like I should have been able to turn the page and read the end of his journey. Because of this I gave it a 3 out of 4 stars. The last line of the last page did have an appropriate line from Skyfall by Adele.
