I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars
Solaris Seethes by Janet McNutty is a fast paced, and action packed story of 5 heroes who must travel through many rich and interesting worlds, in a race to save the galaxy from a power-hungry villain. The action starts right from the first page, and carries the reader right through to the end with battles and struggles for survival, it has everything, from time travel and space pirates, to jungle savages and sabretooth tigers. This book is a great read for young adults who like sci-fi and lots of action.
The story begins with Rynah, our main character, working as a security officer in a geo-lab on the planet Lanyr. The action starts right away when the geo-lab is attacked by a group of soldiers led by Klanor who steal the crystal that has been stabilizing the planets magnetic field, dooming the planet to destruction. While escaping the planet on an artificially intelligent ship built by her grandfather, Rynah learns that the ancient prophecies her grandfather had studied were true and that there are 5 other crystals spread around the galaxy and Klanor plans to use them to power a great weapon. Now there is a race to find these crystals before they fall into Klanor’s hands.
The ship, whose name is Solaris, finds 4 heroes from different times in earths history to help Rynah fulfill the prophecy. The prophecy calls for a lover, a warrior, an inventor, and a philosopher, who will save the galaxy. The writer did a great job of developing these characters through their actions during the various struggles I found them to be relatable and human I especially liked how the character of Brie had to overcome her fears and find courage. The choice of characters and their internal struggles made this an enjoyable read for me.
Throughout the story the author has included many different planets that the group had to visit to recover the crystals before the villains could gather them up, these planets were fascinating with many diverse inhabitants that made the story interesting. the descriptive language used by the author made these planets feel realistic and alive, and the dangerous circumstances of each planet made the story a real page turner.
I really enjoyed reading this, and I would recommend this book for young adults, or anyone who likes to read sci-fi and action stories, and I am looking forward to reading more of this series
