Quorum is the 4th book on the Ereptio Series of books by Sean Buckley. As the predecessors, it’s a fast paced book, packed with action, plot twists and the never-ending world of secret societies and conspiracy theories.

2015 sees a marked shift in world security with the increased threats posed by terrorists in the West. When two men are discovered murdered in the Danish city of Odense with evidence pointing to links with Nazi the Danish Security and Intelligence Service ask the newly formed European Finance Bureau for assistance. Gianfranco Molinari leads an investigation centered in Europe but with ramifications around the world that needs all the major Secret Services to work together to stop an imminent threat. What can be the connection between the Islamic State and the Nazis?
The stakes of the game rise even higher when a consignment of sarin gas stolen from Syria comes into play. Again, secret societies are a part of the game and Molinari needs to find the truth behind the shadows. In Quorum, Molinari is in a race against time to track down the sarin, save a proeminent political leader and maintain the status quo.

Quorum is a very good book for all the thriller fans. I quite enjoyed it myself. Well paced, structured, well built characters and with that scent of espionage that makes everyone suspicious on everyone’s intention. Due to the most recent events on the war on terror and refugees, it strikes a powerful resemblance to the situation nowadays. Enough to make you think who the real power players are and who hides in the shadow. It’s proper conspiracy theory material which I find quite entertaining.

Nevertheless, Quorum has a serious editing problem that affects the reading pace. There were so many spelling errors, typos and lack of punctuation that it was hard to read. Another problem for me was that it felt “overcrowded”. Let me explain properly: being so action packed and taking place in so many locations there are a lot of characters around. That makes hard to follow the story, knowing who does what or the connections between the characters. Maybe if you read the other 3 books first it’s not such a big problem, but if you start with this, you may struggle to remember everyone’s name and purpose on the story.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I thought about giving it 2 because it needs a lot of editing but the story is good and the characters are well built.
It’s written in a very engaging way and I’m certain all the mystery/crime/thrillers fans out there will find it good enough to spend time reading it. And if you enjoy reading about secret societies and conspiracy theories you’ll read not only Quorum but the entire series.
