Wrong Turn, Right Guy was written by Haylie B Fox. The main character, Teresa had put her life on hold and dedicated herself to her career as an attorney for twelve years. Teresa had planned on taking a three-week vacation to Italy with her mother while attending her best friend’s wedding. Prior to leaving for her trip, she was given the ultimatum to choose her career or attend the wedding. Teresa chooses Italy and the wedding. While in Italy, she struggles with the emotions that come with losing her job, meeting two men and discovering herself.

I rated this book 2 out of 4 stars. Though this book may not be a book I will read again, it may possibly be an enjoyable read for someone else. I found it difficult to connect with the character. The character’s lack depth, emotion and they often restated the same feelings or conversation to the point of annoyance. For instance, Teresa’s mother persistently telling Teresa to speak to the Italian people, when Teresa had told her mother numerous times that she was not fluent in the language. Important emotion provoking scenes, such as a first kiss or feelings among the main characters, were not well expressed therefore I did not feel connected to the situations or the characters.

The book spent a great deal of time describing the travels of Teresa throughout Italy. Most of the travels were not pertinent to the book. They did not enhance the plot or help to build a connection with the characters. The author seemed to be wanting to convey how beautiful Italy was which I did feel, however it felt as if the characters were leaping from one location to the next. On multiple occasions, I thought “Come on get to the important stuff”.

When a scene came up that was considered a climax in the book, it wasn’t described well therefore leaving me feeling disappointed, let down and wishing more had been written. Due to the climaxes lacking a crest, it made it appear as if Teresa was undeceive, constantly perplexed, and negative regardless the situation. Though the author was over descriptive and leading with the simplest things, she failed to be so in areas that were significant.

The plot of the book has the potential to be a good, light-hearted read. Unfortunately, this book was incredibly hard for me to finish. I was left dissatisfied and relieved to finish it.
