Escape by Belle Ami

Escape by Belle Ami is a romance thriller based in Israel and Iran.
An American student, Layla, and her Saudi boyfriend, Zamir are kidnapped in Dubai and taken to Iran. The kidnapping is an attempt to obtain ransom money from Zamir's wealthy father. Layla was not the intended target and was only taken because she happened to be with Zamir at the time of the kidnapping, so Zamir's father pays his son's ransom and he is returned to Dubai while Layla is detained in Iran's most notorious prison.

When the Iranian officials realise an American citizen was also kidnapped, Cyrus, an Iranian attaché, is charged with taking custody of Layla from the prison and keeping her safe until she can be returned to America. However, as intriguing information about Layla comes to light, Cyrus receives new orders to get her out of Iran and failing that, to kill her.
Cyrus has no problem ordering a woman around until he meets the beautiful and fiery Layla. They find themselves desperately trying to fight their intense attraction for each other while Cyrus has to put his life and his career on the line in order to try and save them both.

I really enjoyed the 'NCIS' feel this story line has, though I found it very predictable and a little bit 'flat'. There wasn't much depth to the characters and though this is the first in a number of books in this series I don't find myself wanting to read any more of the series. I did however find the setting to be very interesting and the fear of a nuclear country very frightening. Perhaps more could have been done along this line to make the book a bit more thrilling and real.

I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. Though I enjoyed the book, it didn't demand my attention and was very predictable. If you enjoy a romance thriller but just want something light to pass your time then this book may be for you. I think had the characters been developed a bit more and more time and attention given to the seriousness of a nuclear threat, it would have been a much better read. I didn't find myself connecting with any of the characters which is why I have only given a rating of 2.

All in all, Escape by Belle Ami was an enjoyable and very light read. Perhaps one I would keep on the night stand when I just want something easy to read to help me wind down at the end of the day.
