I am giving this book a rating of 2. That is 2 out of 4 stars.

In his book Health Tips, Myths and Tricks, doctor Morton E. Tavel M.D., tries to make certain clarifications about common medical misconceptions, and bring us to make more informed decisions about our health. Some topics are included, but not limited to the facts concerning skipping breakfast, and how replacing sweetened and carbonated beverages helps to reduce cravings and caloric intake. Included as well are such topics as Body Mass Index, whether or not dietary supplements are beneficial, or hazardous, tobacco use, E-cigarettes, usage of Human Growth Hormone to combat aging, irrational fears, and the list goes on.

As it turns out, mom's are right about the importance of breakfast. This if digesting appropriate amounts of foods with high protein content, you will have more steady energy, and feel fuller, quicker and it helps aid weight reduction, by curbing cravings and/or unhealthy snacks. Start your days off right, eat a healthy, protein packed breakfast. Bon Apetit.

Let's go over another interesting topic now: Dietary Supplements, which are useful, which are unnecessary, unless used in moderation, and which to avoid like the plague. Let's start with the one's that can be useful and beneficial. These include, but are not completely limited to: Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, and of course, Vitamin D. You can safely use these simply due to the fact that if there's any excess or too high of a percentage, will be excreted from the human body.

However, multivitamins may contain too high of a percentage of certain ingredients/vitamins combined with the amount our bodies talk in with meals, which can possibly lead to health risks. Included in these percentages are Vitamin A, Calcium, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, of course, and Glucosamine.

Last, but not least, certain supplements are should be avoided entirely, these include Kava, which has been known to cause liver problems, Yohimbe, used for Erectile Disfunction, the brands, that have been regulated by the Federal Drugs Administration, and that are prescribed by a medical health professional, may be a little safer, but using Over The Counter brands may cause serious, long-term, or short-term medical problems with the heart, circulation, etc, and the most dangerous, Aconite, can cause severe side effects, and in some instances, may be fatal.

I rated this book a 2 out of 4 stars, while some topics were informative and interesting, others well completely unrelated to health at all. There were a few noticeable typographical errors, and a few very off topic chapters, interesting, yet had nothing to do with health, therefore, interrupting the entirely flow and purpose of the book. Why, do we need to know about, and why waste an entire chapter to write about things not concerning our health, such as a chapter dedicated to polygraph tests and machines, and how the body responds to such. I just think that while being interesting and all, what's the relation in regards to our body's and our health?
