Raven’s Peak by Lincoln Cole is the first book in the World on Fire series. This book is about good versus evil, hunters fighting against demons to keep the world safe. Cole starts the book off by showing how one hunter, The Reverend, sacrifices himself for a woman he raised by saving her life. Five months later Abigail Dressler is on a mission for the Circle only to save Haatim Arison’s life. After Abigail finds out who Haatim’s father is, she takes Haatim along on the next mission to Ravens Peak under the guise of keeping him safe. Once they reach Raven’s Peak Abigail believes that she has been there before and tries to find out how she remembers this particular place. Once they find out there is demonic activity in the small town of Ravens Peak Abigail works on saving the townspeople and keeping Haatim alive.
Both main characters, Abigail and Haatim, have great chemistry together. Abigail has somewhat of a mysterious past, and because of this past she is a strong female heroine that believes in saving people from the evil that contaminates this world. Haatim starts off as a timid sad character that is struggling with his belief in faith after a tragic event in his life. As the story unfolds he takes strength from Abigail and turns into a strong person that believes that he can help Abigail in her mission to help save Ravens Peak.
Raven’s Peak is one of the best mystery thrillers that I have read in a long time. This story will hook you in the first chapter. The Arthur does a great job keeping the reader on their toes wondering what is going to happen next. Even though this book is in a series it has a beginning, middle, and end. The Arthur does not leave you with any questions on the storyline of the first book, but what is going to happen in the next book.
What I liked most about this book was the relationship between Abigail and Haatim. As they spend more time together you see Abigail open up more and actually talk to Haatim about her past and her fears. Haatim that is scared and has a hard time believing in demons learns to fight for a cause that can save lives.
Lincoln Cole knows how to write in a way that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The story is well-balanced and even though the book is about good and evil it touches on religion but doesn’t get very involved in that aspect. There are enough religion and personal belief systems for the reader to understand why the Hunters fight the evil that is in this world. Any reader that loves a good mystery thriller will enjoy this book.
I rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed the storyline and how it keeps the reader involved in the story. Raven’s Peak captured my attention in a way that I could not put the book down and read it in one day. I plan to purchase the second book in the series so I can find out what happens next.
